The last action of S.M.P.D. in this year was St. Nicholas run at the our park railway.
Mr Winter showed us her dominion from curtain of the November already. A great
deal of snow and temperature deep under the zero point. A global warming stays
away meanwhile.
The steam engines stayed in depots regarding a frost weather and only battery engines
operated. We cleared away approximately twenty centimeters snow layer by snow plough
and by manpower. But a thin film of frostbitten snow on rails implicated to us more
problems. Wheels greatly creeped on this "film". The temperature deep under the
zero point did not allow us to light burner of the gas bottle so we can clear away
frostbitten layer and we must use tried sanding. We took on sand at a children
sand pit and we spilled this sand on rails. After a some test runs and thorough
switches and level crossing clearing was a track ready to operating after three
hours. Practices showed us that a locomotives for commercial operating mus have
a sandblast system.
The St. Nicholas with devil did not come eventually. Maybe they did not want flounder
through snowdrifts or we were naughty all year. Only greatest backers visit us and
we thank them very well. Whole chilled we cleared away waggons, loaded locomotives
in the evening and we went in our warm homes. We are looking forward to spring,
because runs on a warmer weather is better.
