Weather at the park railway Olympia:

More weather

The Brno main railway station in the moved position is reality since June 2012

The main station was in its infancy when we started with provisional operation at the station Amphitheatre two years ago. Only a piece of building site. None background for models or modellers. We tried a storage space in the Olympia centre at the first and we carried our models over parking place up to track and then we moved into station Amphitheatre all together. We bought container, put track up to it and we stocked carriages in this container at the second. It was nearer, access ramp helped us, but we worked like a dog in the morning and in the evening. We spent one weekend in the month in the middle of the park and we were issued of variages of the weather. We were out in the rain near our heating steam locomotives when visitors were hidden in the shopping centre because it was not impossible to hide our locomotives. And we polemized about raind and tropical furnace. What is better? But we did not come to the none conclusion. This is the past for us today and we can only remember this time. For example the boys wanted to run one weekend but the rain waiting to happen from early morning. And they arrived under the bridge when it starter raining and it was raining heavilly all day and they had to return back. Trains, passengers and we are hidden under covered platform today.

We planned to organize international steam meetings back then. And ceremonial opening of the main station invited to it. We were cognizant of the difficulty of it task. It will the first operation in the main station with 140 people for one thing, and we do not have any experience with organization on such a big meeting for another. But we did not let obstacles discourage us.
All activities in the construction were subordinated to final inspection in the late May 2012. We cannot open the main station without final inspection. And we cannot execute international meeting without visitors. We spent all weekends and all free time in the building of the main station since April. Craftsmen worked at full throttle during weeks and we worked at full throttle during weekends. Last week before Steam Olympaid was very hectic. The most important track and switches for operation were layed and we had to gravelled its. We did not count a numbers of tons of ballast when we loaded into dump cars and carried in the main station. Switch machines and lifting platform for models unloading were installed almost on the eve of the 1st Steam Olympiad.
We missed the deadline, but we were ready for operation of the domestic and visitor models. Reactions of the all participating modellers were very positive. Every visitor admited that we made a pretty good job during last two years. But round-house not completed. But all buildings have not a facade. So what? We prepared all necessary facilities for modellers, models and visitors. And we will continue with building until the following meeting. Everybody see difference next year.
Our visitors could see, besides well-known domestic models, next 26 locomotives and one Austrian locomobile. Invitation on the 1st Steam Olympiad accepted modellers from Czech Republic, Austria, England, Germany and Slovenia. 1st Steam Olympiad was action of the international importance because 40.000 visitors came in the Olympia park and attached parking place.

We have own street U Parkove drahy

Private party ran in the Friday late afternoon for invited guests from shopping centre Olympia, local government, construction companies, sponsors and co-hosts of the 1st Steam Olympiad and Children´s day. We wanted to thank all participating for their help at building and their support our Park Railway Olympia. Thank you especially shopping centre Olympia for boost and media advertising. And thank you for all sponsors, which saved up our considerable financial resources.
During Friday private party was unveiling ceremony of new street U Parkove drahy. This idea came into existence during our discussion about Park Railway, but Roman handled this idea and in cooperation with involved authorities we have own street. You can write us on the new club address U Parkove drahy 1.

Opening the main station included unveiling ceremony of new street U Parkove drahy, which executed
mayor of the centre city district Brno-jih Mr. Josef Haluza and director of the OC Olympia Mr. Jan Pazour.

Free admission for visitors or 1st Steam Olympiad was open.

The Olympia park main station was opened at the first time for the general public on Saturday 2nd July 2012. None national anthems, none speeches. We raised country´s colours of the all participating countries including our, Moravian. Final preparations were under way from early morning. Shunting in depot, shunting in the main station, heating of the steam locomotives in the round-house. Small sleepy railway station at the local line changed for the big busy main station with real operation. Working trains with water and coal for steam locomotives arranged at entry tracks, shunting of the passenger carriages for commercial trains ran in the main station. Operators beat up and down, tickets, souvenirs and steam beer were preparing in the ticket office. You can see detailed reportage in the section Photo gallery/1st Steam Olympiad 2012.

The first passengers besieged ticket office during preparing of the steam locomotivies in the round-house. Tomas Marek alias "Uncle puff-puff" was swamped with work:

And then right "rush" has come. Those interested in ride were many and the main station "was bursting at the seams" on Saturday afternoon. We transported more than 2.000 passengers on Saturday. All club locomotives and passenger carriages were operating. The locotractor ran maximally loaded and another club locomotives resolutely did not to let grass grow under one´s feet. Some visiting trains helped us too. We tried to dispatch passenger trains at regular intervals. Given the attendance visiting models which were sometimes technical problems (most often with steam pressure) and they did not manage to arrive at side tracks, line capacity was considerably reduced. Then big queues formed at the main station and nervousness was gradually growing. We had to close ticket office at five p.m.

Commentated show of the all participating models took place on Saturday after dinner. This we picked up at Graz, but this was surely interesting for visitors. They made the acquaintance more informations about each model - origin, author and basic technical informations. Models lined up before main station and first things first passed through viewers on the line:

We served classic Czech goulash with beer or kofola for lunch. And goulash was goog I think, because there is almost nothing left. The operation was not interrupted during lunch so all participating modelleres replaced with each other. And we had a nice chat too:

We would like to thank all, which participated on preparation and organization this unique action. A major part of modellers and visitors was satisfied with 1st Steam Olympiad. We have a some things for improvement, expecially capacity of our passenger trains. We would like to construct more powerful locomotive for long passenger train and flatcar for wheelchair users too.
List of all helpers would be too long and I think that everybody concerned know. So once more thank you very much all engine drivers, switchmen, booking clerks, crossing keepers, providers, builders of the mobile yard, musicians and all others, which spent your free time for benefit 1st Steam Olympiad.

1st Steam Olympiad is dead, long live the next Steam Olympiad!
