Weather at the park railway Olympia:

More weather

We can talk about the international meeting of steam locomotives, steam engines and historical buses - 3rd Steam Olympia in past tense already. Almost half-yearly exacting preparations were crowned with presence of some tens of well-known and a brand new participants.

Participants and exhibitors started to get together on Friday afternoon already. So bring of the heavy machines - big steam locomotive were from early morning. We managed to take a nursery school from Nezamyslice in the meantime. Remaining part arrived on Saturday morning. Excelent atmosphere reigned abroad all participants all weekend. But weather was too hot and temperature attacked 35 degrees centigrade. Our European modelmaking family work in the mutual symbiosis and our relationships with foreign modellers are more than good. We fell our deficit a little, because we can´t visit another park railway of friendly clubs as sooner. But we have to arrange our weekend operations during all summer. We promised our friends from Graz that we will participate at their 10. anniversary in the autumn. Our TU locomotive will welcome variegation we think.

3rd Steam Olympia is starting ...

The operation day for locomotives of the park railway starts in the round-house and in front of the round-house, where locomotives are supplying, oiling and heating. It goes smoothly sometimes but sometimes you must reprimand some locomotives. Very seldom nor resolute persuation doesn´t help to them. Luckily all locomotives leave the round-house gradually and they went to the line.

There was a preparation in the kitchen from the early morning. Our wifes looked care for all participations in all respects. The service was moving along smoothly except for small problem with coffee machine. Lunch goulash, afternoon sweet and salty table, saturday evening barbecue and Sunday banquet satisfied all boarders I hope. So alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages were enough and nobody don´t die of thirst.

The passing trains on the line is quite frequent in this intensive operation. Pleasure from the meeting show almost everybody - engine drivers by hooting, passengers by waving and children by shouting. And passengers help to locomotives with hooting during passage under the bridge.

The side events

The side events took place at the attached car park as every year. Brno normal gauge steam locomotive 213.901 was the main draw for visitors. This locomotive introduced for the first time and it ran back and forth at 50 meters of the track. Interested persons could visit engine driver´s cab and they could try to control this locomotive. The road steamroller Mamut from 1930 belonged among next big machines, which introduced in high feather. It wasn´t for the first time at our place and it aroused respect and admiration its grand run at the cark park. Pavel Barnasik ran around with his functional replica of the steam motocycle from 1868 between visitors and next exhibits. The big and small stationary steam engines got together too. Model of the steam locomotive 365.0 in scale 1:20 and model of the diesel locomotive T47.002 in scale 1:10 ran about at the 75mm gauge track. The historical buses introduced in the same make-up at last year, only new renovated Tatra 500 HB was exception. Our club yard with a functional steam locomotive models closed this year side events.

It heated and ready for operation.

And then we could try to control big steam locomotive.
The gadgets are a bit more bigger than on our models. You can expend bigger force for their control.
And set locomotive in the motion and brake it at 50 meters of the track is very difficult.

We couldn´t resist to Peter´s offer to drive his steamroller. We only kept direction
of the steamroller by turning wheel, but it was very hard. Peter obtained other functions.
I meant that my hand fall down than I turned with steamroller. And then again back.
The steamroller hasn´t any power assisted steering. No kidding:
