Last operating weekend
Saturday 26th October - Monday 28th October 2013

The time passed so quickly and we have a last operating weekend now. There was a long weekend because public holiday - Day of the establisment of the independent Czechoslovak state falls on a Monday this year. The time changed from summer to winter on Sunday at night so the two last operating days were shorter an hour because darkness came at five o´clock afternnon. It cannot be helped, the winter is coming slowly and we have to wait for next operating weekend. We will rest after long exacting season and we gain a new strenght at any rate - we spent 26 operating weekends at our park railway. Our working team strengthen even more than before. And every member found his cup of tea for park railway operation. And now let´s go look around last operating weekend.

Our young boys prepared two-way operation with a timetable on Saturday and Sunday so trains left the main station both directions - at first departed from the main station train around the round-house at left track and after two minutes departed from the main station second train at right track. Trains met and passed in station Amphitheatre. We hope that it was interesting for our passengers and we will repeat it in the next year.

Steam operating weekend
Saturday 5th October and Sunday 6th October 2013

Cold autumn weather left its mark on the weekend poor attendance. The weather was sunny on Saturday, but cold wind was blowing all day incessantly. The breeze didn´t so strong on Sunday, but the sun went in and it was drizzling off and on. Engine drivers were numb with cold after some runs and we lighted up the stove for a long time.

Although the sun was shining, it was cold.

Saturday 14th September and Sunday 15th September 2013

The first raw autumn weather with the rain shower arrived to our place on Saturday morning. It was raining all morning and so the station was completely empty. The weather turned fine afternnon and it was relatively amiably on Sunday. We have to slowly getting to it because the summer is about to leave. Steam operating weekend
Saturday 31th August and Sunday 1st September 2013

Last steam weekend fell on last summer holiday weekend. Most children were at home and attendance was visibly added. The weather was not downright a summer and it was raining at times. Three steam locomotives were in service and two coupled AEG locomotives and locotractor helped them during passengers invasion.

The steam locomotive Krzenowic was one of steam locomotives which visitors can see in operation on Saturday and Sunday. Initially it goes together with locomotive Ponava, but this locomotive had an intermittent defect, which we didn´t repair during weekend (burnt pipe of blower in a smoke box) so finally Krzenowic went discretely. But heating is much faster now than use a classic fan on smokestack, thanks to new air inlet, which Roman installed on Friday afternoon.

Steam operating weekend
Saturday 3rd August and Sunday 4th August 2013

The sweltering heat continued during this steam operating weekend still. We did not heating any steam locomotive on Saturday because a graas in the park was parched. We had prepared an emergency fire train - TU locomotive and tank car with a small pump. Fortunately train need not go to the track with the exception of evening new bushes irrigation. Steam locomotive Victoria and coupled steam locomotives Krzenowic and Ponava provided Sunday operation. Trains went practicall half-empty because visitors were a few due to hot weather.

Rolling-stock maintenance is in progress incessantly in the round-house but this is invisible for regular visitors. Roman and Jirka are responsible for the maintenance. There is a maintenance and bogie cleaning of the bench car on the next photos. The most used cars did over one hundred kilometers during all season. And this operation have an impact on the many parts of bogies. You can see small-grained metal particles on bogie which result from mutual friction of wheels and brake blocks. There are blades of grass rolled at axles, too. They must clean all, check all gudgeons and coupling retainers, well lubricate and don´t forget write a date of inspection at car´s rails.

But some of the people resisted to pressure and stayed at home in the Moravia. And some from these people decided to visit us.

The engine of locotractor GMEINDER failed during one of approach to the main station. And engine driver couldn´t start up this engine. Because screws holding flywheel worked loose. So stanby locotractor WDEF was pulled out from round-house. This action lasted from 5 to 10 minutes. But passengers had to walk about twenty metres from out of operation train to the platform. We do appologize for trouble but passengers could watch how we resolve emergency on the other hand.

Saturday and Sunday were under way in a slow-paced compared to last weekend when we were surrounded by passengers. One capacity train with locotractor WDEF operated all day and two small trains with battery locomotives AEG helped its. The weather was finally summer and we rested a little during weekend operation.

Steam operating weekend
Saturday 1th June and Sunday 2nd June 2013
or dress rehearsal for 2nd Steam Olympia

We were swamped with work all two days although the weather was not very good in the beginning. The main station was surrounded by visitors on Saturday afternoon. The shopping centre Olympia holded Children´s day and many participants visited us too. All trained engine drivers were in the operation at the moment. Only Petr Prikazky covered 39 kilometers with his locomotive Morava during Saturday operation and if he added Sunday performance then he arrived into home station Straznice. Remaining part of members finished at work for oncoming international meeting. The package holiday from Sumperk hospital visited us on Sunday morning. We did not bored all weekend. We need very powerful and reliable locomotives which are capable manage short-time gusts of passengers. But not traction force of locomotives and capacity of waggons do not unlimited so sometimes will queues of passengers on the platforms. Last Saturday was a dress rehearsal for next weekend. Let´s hope that the weather will good. Professionals from Czech Hydrometeorological Institute promise it to us.

Steam locomotive MORAVA was one of the most fully occupied locomotive,
however Petr felt this effect of his back:

Operating weekend
Saturday 25th May and Sunday 26th May 2013

Weekend weather resembled rather start of April than end of May but the damage is done. All Saturday is was raining and Sunday did not improve it with a cold weather. Passengers was coming little by little and they had a ride in the rain. Battery locomotive operated on Saturday and both locotractores alternated on Sunday. So we utilized bath weather for indoor works because the international steam meeting is comming soon.

Operating weekend
Saturday 18th May and Sunday 19th May 2013

Last operating weekend was organizationally a little more demanding. We promised to Technical museum our attendance at this year Museum night, which falled up on Saturday 18th May. So the first group left Park railway with our mobile yard after lunch. It had to assembled this yard till six p.m. when Museum night starts. The second part of the four members provided operation at Park railway till end of operating day. It is very hard work with only four members - one cashier, one ticket collector/dispatecher and two engine drivers because number of passengers strongly increased. And after end of the operation hurrah to museum, because we would like drive with a small steam engines too. The museum was opened till midnight and then we had to clean our mobile yard and quickly go to bed. Because we have to prepare big rolling-stock for all-day operation Sunday early morning.

Operating weekend
Saturday 11th May and Sunday 12th May 2013

Old weather saying are valid constantly and Ice men claimed in the full power because a low pressure area was slowly crossing our region. A swift fall in temperature was previously announced. And two battery locomotives supported all weekend operation. We went between rain showers in the rain showers too but we went all two days. Some passengers were equipped with umbrellas and we lent our club umbrellas for other. Guess when did sun rise? On Sunday towards evening at about one hour before end of the operation weekend.

Operating day
Wednesday 8th May 2013

Holiday Wednesday as if copied the May Day. Attendance was a copious before the noon. Three service locomotives worked permanently all day except of the lunch break. The locotractor GMEINDER was the main hard worker and two battery locomotives AEG No. 4 and No. 9 assisted to it successfully. We operated according to the timetable which is put up at the box office. Passengers maybe sometime seem that they are waiting for departure for a time, but service staff observes the timetable and trains leave the station fully loaded. And Czech national railway operator could envy us this occupancy rate.

Steam operating weekend
Saturday 4th May and Sunday 5th May 2013

Four steam locomotives met during the steam operating weekend. Steam locomotive KRZENOWIC with installed air brake operated after year-long break. Bohous Pavlicek drove a model of "frowning" locomotive. The concentration of models was varied, the weather just right and we hope so we sweeten weekend to you. And only one small explanation for visitors. Steam locomotives operate in case of largish number of passengers, mostly after lunch break. Because keep the inactive steam locomotive on alert at the station for a long time is rather problematical. But our engine drivers are ready for fire up from the morning if many passengers will come.

Park railway Olympia season 2013 opening
Wednesday 1st May 2013

May Day Wednesday was harshly at th first, but the weather was sunny and pleasant in the end. The attendance was very high. Nice spring weather lured many people outside. Some visitors come to Brno by train and then visited our railway for ride by a small train. This is superb symbiosis, isn't that so? Thank you very much all our visitors for favour.
