Weather at the park railway Olympia:

More weather

Closing of the season
Tuesday 28th October 2014

(photo © Tomas Randysek)

Last operating day is the past time and we can slowly evalute past operating season. The main station Olympia is in operation de facto third year and it is quite finished. If you excluding building a depo shelter which waits for us next year. These building works don´t will any influence for the main station operation. New locomotives TU 47.001 and TU 47.002 were used for regular operation during summer. These locomotives considerably reinforce the transport capacity at 3rd Steam Olympia and during all year, particularly at afternoon rush hours. Both locotractor could through careful inspection step by step for improvement comfort of the engine drivers. New compressor of the continuous pressure brake and hand brake. Control panels were modernized, frontal and back windows were fitted with glass, side entrances were equipped with curtains so engine drivers are better sheltered before vagaries of the weather. Works ai the round house were in progress all season, all passenger cars were under review. This is unending work. We would like build up a small circle in front of the main station, put track security system into operation, install automatic control of switches on entrance lead. We never don´t bored, I think. The sun was shinning during last operating day although the days are getting shorter and it´s getting dark quickly. But its belongs to end of the October. Thank you for your favour and we look forward see you in 2015.

Operating weekend
Saturday 25th October and Sunday 26th October 2014

The timetable for two-way traffic was in force during last operating weekend. Trains departured in two minutes interval from the main station and they crossed in the station Amphitheatre. The weather was raw and engine drivers were dressed in warm wear. Not only hot apple juice was warming us.

Trains are despatching either by whistle or by signal disc and whistle.

Operating weekend
Saturday 11th October and Sunday 12th October 2014

The gorgeous Sunday weather attracted a huge entry in the afternoon, unusual for this season. There were not any free seats under pergola and both platforms were full too. So both locomotives TU failed during half-hour and on the top of it. The first locomotive had a problems with the batteries capacity and tests showed us that a battery charger is faulty. The second locomotive had a problem with the bald flanges. There were a bad material which producer used for wheels productions. But this locomotive had 680 of kilometres travelled up to this day. The operating season is slowly coming to an end and Jura will have a lot of work during winter. Fortunately, two locotractors were ready and they continue in the operation. But Sunday afternoon was hectic but this hihg attendance pleased us. We apologize for your occasional waiting for train which was caused above mentioned circumstances.

Steam operating weekend
Saturday 4th October and Sunday 5th October 2014

Last steam operating weekend this season is successfully behind us. The weather was cloudy during both weekend days. The sunny did not appear despite promises of meteorologists. The sunny peeped through the clouds on Sunday evening. The cold wind blowed on Saturday so we heated in woodburning stove after long time. Saturday cold weather had an impact on attendance which was lower than usually on Saturday.

Saturday 13th September and Sunday 14th September 2014

End of the working week was relatively cold and rainy. The rain was in Graz, the rain was at our park railway, the rain was just everywhere. So this reportage leads you into our backstage. You see what we have to neccessary do for your comfort ride.

Every operating day begins in the engine shed (LD) and railway yard (DKV).
The working and cleaning train drives out at he first. It must clean all line,
particularly all crossing levels and switches from filths and ballast.
The respected expert for this activity is our court meteorologist Jenda,
which performs it really conscientiously.

Steam operating weekend with night runs
Saturday 6th September and Sunday 7th September 2014

Steam operating weekend was spiced with evening and night runs for visitors. The park railway was opened till Saturday midnight. We was worried about weather because we invested to media promotion on the Radio Petrov too. But weather was gorgeous and it lured visitors from the Saturday morning. There were a lot of passengers in the evening. We went according to special timetable and steam, battery and diesel locomotives operated in the evening. Every passenger can chose at will, children sometimes had to wait a moment for some locomotive. A refreshment was prepare in the evening and visitors plentifully used it. Thank you all passengers and their accompaniment for visit and thank you all our members for organization and prolonged Saturday service.

Steam operating weekend
Saturday 2nd August and Sunday 3rd August 2014

August steam operating weekend brought classical summer weather and average attendance. The park took a breath to live after heavy rains and vegetation which reminded rather dried-up savannah a week ago, came alive by unprecedented way. Especially weeds in the ballast was alive and kicking so we had to moralize it a little. In an environmentally friendly way of course so ecologists and other creepy-crawlies like us. Operation at the station ran its tempo. Operation managed all three domestic steam locomotives with support of TU locomotives. Sunday evening thunderstorms successfully avoid us and they only cleaned air above park railway.

Steam operating weekend
Saturday 5th July and Sunday 6th July 2014

(photo © Tomas Randysek)

The month passed so qickly and there was steam operating weekend here. Steam locomotives Krzenowic, Morava and Ponava supported Saturday operation. But Murphy's Laws function always and everywhere. We lost all steam power during half hour on Saturday afternoon. Steam locomotive Krzenowic began strike at the first. Engine driver couldn't drive up a pressure of steam above four atmospheres. A perforating blower in the smoke box was the cause. The copper thin small pipe had a claim to this defect after five operation years. The steam locomotive Ponava joined immediately. There was a problem with a water level in the watermark. And steam locomotive Morava with a break of the coupling rod was as third. Luckily we have next locomotives in reserve so TU locomotives and locotractor replaced them in the short time. Ponava and Morava were repaired during Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning and Bohous Pavlicek came with battery locomotive T 478.1016. The repair of steam locomotive Krzenowic was more difficult so it wasn´t used in operation on Sunday.

Krzenowic and Ponava are ready for Saturday operation.

Saturday 28th June and Sunday 29th June 2014

The summer holiday started and Brno is becoming depopulated gradually. It showed at weekend´s attendance of the park railway which was noticeably poor. Sunday rain showers surely discourage a lot of visitors. But we rode a few hundred passengers and we are really grateful. That remains to be seen how holiday will sign at next weekends.

Steam operating weekend
Saturday 31th May and Sunday 1st June 2014

The Children Day is in token of various events every year. The entertaining afternoon in the Olympia shopping centre is one of them. So we can waiting a increased onrush of passengers especially in nice weather. And nice weather wished you and direct proportion is valid in the time of the advanced technologies (nice weather = many visitors). We planed with it a little and so we put both locomotives TU 47.001 and TU 47.002 into operation. There was a sneak preview before Steam Olympia when both locomotives will work hard all two days.

Marco Piranese with his family visited us. He brought a new battery model ANNA which has name as his small daughter. They are busy in the time of Steam Olympia so come a little earlier. There was a pleasant variegation for our visitors. We got an invitation to visit their park railway Ferrovia Willy in Gemona (www.ferroviawilly.it). We make use of this opportunity and we will have plan some suitable date with regard to our park railway operation.

Operating weekend
Saturday 17th May and Sunday 18th May 2014

Next rain weekend is behind us. Steady rain changed earlier rain showers, Saturday was a bit better. We drove a few fans with umbrellas and without. So we watched our national hockey circus in Minsk in free moments. But lose evident match with Denmark in the last five minutes is art really. There are not weak opponents today.

It is raining - this is a picture of all weekend.

Operating weekend
Saturday 10th May and Sunday 11th May 2014

A short forecasts proceed of meteorologists last time almost exactly but we must watch news programmes and mobile applications for Moravia only. Because Czech Republic ends about 100 km to the east from Prague for majority of the Czech news programmes.
We have one hundred per cent assurance - the weather influences of fundamental way attendance. Saturday was a nice sunny hot day and four trains barely manage to ride passengers, but on Sunday was cloudy from the morning and the rain started about lunch. We rode 18 passengers finally. But irrigation is necessary because we have a deficit in underground reserves of the water. I wish it rain in the night and I wish it sunny during day. That would be nice.

Steam operation weekend
Saturday 3rd May and Sunday 4th May 2014

The cold front transition influences weekend weather on Saturday particularly. The cold wind was blowing and temperature drop about fifteen degrees made us to heat in woodburning stove. Our engine drivers was glad to warm up after few depart rounds. Sunday was a little better but weather was cold still. An attenfdance was passable and we thanks all our visitors.
