Weather at the park railway Olympia:

More weather

Last operating weekend
Saturday 31th October and Sunday 1st November 2015

(photo © Tomas Randysek)

The summer passed quickly, the autumn is in full swing and we have the end of this year season. The last operating day was on 1st November at that but the weather was very lenient to us. It wanted to compensate us for sweltering summer heats maybe. The last two operating days was nice sunny and unusually warm after morning fogs and low clouds. The two-way traffic was a radical change on last operating weekend. We put it on the end of season as variegation for our passengers. Two trains leave opposite direction with hindsight two minutes and they pass each other in the station Amphitheatre. The trains get together at the double-track section under the wooden maze sometimes. It is very good for take an attractive and nontraditional takes. A new covered carriage was put into operation during last operating weekend. It was very big interest in ride with this carriage. We are completing another in the workshop and so our passengers will protect from the rain next year.
If we look back on the past season so all active members of the our club served out total 59 operating days and a few nonscheduled services for nursery schools, schools and suburban camps at that. We can organize guided tour of the station and train ride on working days for beforehand reported groups. We contended with summer tropical weather this year and we had to cancel steam operation two times because sparks lighted parched grass in the park. Number of the out-of-Brno visitors increased compared to previous years. We are glad about that. Our park railway get to wider subconscious and we will continue with its promotion.
We will now relax a little but small work will going on in the workshop during the winter. We will arrange St. Nicholas runs for visitors maybe, beause it is very difficult lure passengers out from warmed shopping centre. But Christmas coming soon quickly and next Echtdampf-Hallentreffen in January too. And then we will start with preparation of the new season and the Steam Olympia. Heigh-ho, how time flies!

Operating day
Wednesday 28th October 2015

The holiday of the declaration of the independent Czechoslovakia state falled to Wednesday this year and it was work for us - next operating day of this season. And this day was leisurely, passengers were coming step by step so one locomotive TU arranged operation. Petr drove adjusted new steam locomotive and he tested it all day. There was a variegation for visitors surely.

Operating weekend
Saturday 24th October and Sunday 25th October 2015

The autumn began colour in trees to gold yellow and red shades and the park bathed in sunshine sounded a calming note. Maybe traffic gridlock from the last weekend discouraged majority of the visitors. Parking next to shopping centre was half-empty and park was unusually quiet during both weekend days. Traffic on access roads has stabilized but information flow in mass media did own.

Steam operating weekend
Saturday 3rd October and Sunday 4th October 2015

The last steam operating weekend of this year season offered us relatively pleasant weather. Even when the days are getting shorter and nightfall comes very quickly. The four steam locomotives got involved into operation - Krzenowic, Ponava, Solingen and Victoria. Diesel locomotive TU 47.001 was helping out them.

Steam operating veekend and night runs
Saturday 5th September and Sunday 6th September 2015

The first September weekend was steam and we organized the second night runs on Saturday. This year holiday are over with, the regular daily regimen began for everybody and so we wanted to make start of school year more pleasant. Country band Zimour arranged an cultural programme and it played during all evening. We was afraid at six p.m. a little because rainfall rushed from Vienna to Brno but it turned to Bratislava in the nick of time - meteorologist from Brno airport was right. The weather wasn´t so warm as last year but we can sit outside without problems. The evening and night trains and refreshment were prepared for passengers. The hot dogs like hot cakes above all. We believe that night event was successful and we will repeat it next year.

Operating weekend
Saturday 8th August and Sunday 9th August 2015

The heatwave is continuing. We didn´t have a break with warm during week and next weekend afflicted us by tropical temperatures. It was stifling hot but many visitors found their way to us after all. The park is becoming tired under gust of sune and absolute absence of precipitation. And so we had to use our tank car after a long time and water a newly plant shrubs. An evening water bath did them good. A weather prediction for the following days isn´t too much favourable. It is a proper summer or not?

Steam operating weekend
Saturday 1st August and Sunday 2th August 2015

We can evalute past steam weekend with a full of contradiction feelings. The attendance was very good both days but we had to put all steam locomotives out of operation. It was on Saturday about noon. Leading cause were hot weather and strong wind, which dispersed sparks from a smokestacks beyond the ballast on the parched grass. The fire train was in fully standby several times, but a water volume from the tank car - it was as nothing. We were sorry, but we didn´t want to play with a fire. It was very unplesant for Kazik Karuga which came from Polish Katowice with a steam locomotive Morava. All diesel and battery locomotives were in operation on Saturday afternoon. We apologize to all our visitors for temporary shutdown of the steam operation on Saturday afternoon. The situation was a better on Sunday. There were cloudy from the morning and it started raining in the afternoon. The two hours rain was persistent, but it has not helped the grass. And we have our umbrellas for passengers in readiness. There are a paradoxes simply.

Operating weekend
Saturday 25th July and Sunday 26th July 2015

This operating weekend surprised us by its high attendance and we noticed that many people are non-resident which chose our park railway as target their holiday. Because changeable weather really invited to do trips. We contended with labour shortage and locomotives striking a little on Sunday. But we managed it eventually without visitors attentiveness, with only one unplanned train towage from the line. Passengers took with a smile this tovage. They waited a while for a pusher locomotive, which pushed their train at the main station. Too machinery chooses its a week moment but at the inopportune moment. It happens at the big railway too so our scale locomotives ape all its. Most of the small models did over hundred kilometres during operation season.
I would like make an appeal to latecomers visitors which means visitors which coming after opening hours. The opening hours are mentioned on our web pages, on the Facebook and in the showcase before entry into the main station. Most people understand it and they note: "What a pity that we didn´t come earlier." But we don´t "screw-loose" how we found out on Sunday evening from one father which came at half past six and which one took it out on our young members. But we have to clean up rolling stock and railway compound yet after all operating day. The principal information for everybody - the last train leaves at six p.m. Thank you all of understanding people for understanding.

Long operation weekend
Saturday 4th July - Monday 6th July 2015

A heatwave flooded all Central Europe and so we contended with tropical weather all long operatin weekend. The temperature attacked 40 °C under the roofed pergola. And there was worse in the park. The air got warmed and grew heavier with hours and the air didn´t move after the lunch. There was an ordeal for steam engine drivers expecially. But we managed it in the end even when we dropped from exhaustion every evening.
We had variegated the Saturday morning together with our visitors because the editors of the Czech television was shot a reportage about our park railway. So we showed to them our station environment and we talked to them some about our railway and then they caught shots of the trains in the station and on the line. Thank you very much to our visitors for their assistance. We will inform about term of the broadcasting subsequently.

Shooting clip of the Sokol Brno I symphonic orchestra
"DON´T LET MISS THE OPPORTUNITY !"
Wednesday 17th June 2015

Sokol Brno I symphony orchestra is a first musical grouping in the Sokol history which concentrates on classical music. The orchestra was founded in February 2014 from initiative of the students of the Janacek Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Brno conservatory and young Brno musicians. The main object is a quality interpretation of the serious and contemporary music. "But we have a shortage of the good and reliable musicians" remarked Mr Joel Hana - conductor and musical director. And so idea arose to shooting a clip for forthcoming tender for free posts in orchestra. "The violins miss us but we look for another instruments" Mr conductor complained. This orchestra made a good impression on me. They play classical music, they have a sense of humour and keep their distance from neatly tailcoats. Their music carried beautifully through the quiet morning park by Olympia.

Operating weekend
Saturday 30th May and Sunday 31th May 2015

The Children´s day took place on Saturday on many places including Olympia Brno. We watched a bigger attendance from the morning but afternoon squall halted rush of the visitors a little. This weekend was the most successful in this season meantime. We paid our attention to readiness of the rolling stock before the forthcoming international meeting. One of TU locomotives began to switched off and red AEG locomotive was showing a failure in electronics. Both Georges were swamped with work and they had to exchange regulators in locomotives. Roman intensively finished a bogies of our new carriage because we need a free space for a visiting modellers. We welcomed our new member Varinec from Podivin too. Tomas, Michal and Sasa helped us, Jirka droped on Sunday. Our station was really busy. Maybe herald of the next weekend.

Visit of the children from Associated school "Majka"
Monday 25th May 2015

The associated school "Majka" from Brno visited us within their educational programme on Monday 25th May. The children listened commentary about history of railway, about our park railway origin and operation and they saw depot and rolling stock. They rode by train to finish. We hope that their visit was to benefit.

Operating weekend
Saturday 23th May and Sunday 24th May 2015

The weather wasn´t on our side during last weekend particularly Saturday was rainy. We would like choice nice weather with interest at forthcoming Steam Olympia and all park will be sunshine. We would prefer sweat buckets than shelter from rain.

Operating weekend
Saturday 16th May and Sunday 17th May 2015

We had to combine third operating weekend of this year season with our attendance at Brno museum night. The forecasts of meteorologists didn´t came true and strong drop in temperature didn´t held luckily. And operation at the station passed by usual temp.

Long operating weekend
Friday 8th May - Sunday 10th May 2015

The weather showed its more affable face during second long operating weekend. It was hot and sunny all three days. All wrongs from the last week were forgotten and we enjoyed this nice spring well-being. There was wery rush at the station and trains left mostly full of the passengers. The nature woke in the park, a plants are budding already and young hares and pheasants are chasing between passing trains.

Přivítali jsme mezi sebou nového zájemce o členství v klubu - Lukáše. Jenže my už jednoho Lukáše máme, tak aby se to nepletlo, má naštěstí nový Lukáš ještě jméno Tonda. takže Tondy se ujali naši mladší členové, hlavně Jenda - vystudovaný učitel. Ten ho postupně zasvěcuje do provozu parkové dráhy.

Start of the season 2015 at Park Railway Olympia and first steam weekend
Friday 1st May - Sunday 3rd May 2015

Deštivější a chladnější začátek května jsme si opravdu nemohli přát. Co nestihl pátek, hravě vynahradila neděle a chudák sobota, ta to opravdu sama nemohla vytrhnout.

Sobota a neděle byly současně první parní dny v letošním roce.
Návštěvníkům se postupně představily lokomotivy Victoria, Krzenowic, Ponava a Solingen:

V sobotu nás navštívil Kazimierz Karuga z polských Katowic i se svými přáteli.
Kazimierz stal novým majitelem parní lokomotivy Morava a také novým členem našeho klubu.
Takže Moravu budete na našich kolejích vídat i v budoucnu:
