The steam locomotive 354.190 "Vsudybylka" on gauge 5"
- a new addition in our rolling-stock

Bohous Pavlicek introduced his new steam locomotive 354.190 nicknamed "Vsudybylka" after several years of seeking materials, drawing details and assembling. The first heating at park railway took place on Thursday 16th April 2015. The blacksmith's coal is very effective for photographer because the smoke billows from smokestack is the same as standard gauge locomotive. But it isn´t very good for steam generation at this small furnace. The locomotive had sufficient reserve after passage to anthracite coal. Bohous even will extende axle pump and he will adjust blower but there is only detail given locomotive assembling. We must wait to its premiere with passengers till September because Bohous will start to next operation for his back. We wish to him many happy returns!

Locotractor WDEF - younger brother of the GMEINDER

The locotractor GMEINDER was put into regular operation with increasing frequency compared to original plan. There was particulary at peak hours when was necessary transport large numbers of passengers. It showed on engine power especially. However the locotractor was made in Germany, used engine was imported from China. Our operation checked power of the locotractor properly. Oneself producer warned us about excessively loading because this engine isn´t constructed for this operation. Our trains were composed of five passengers cars or eight passengers cars during special occasions. But these runs gave engine with power 4,5 kW a really hard time. We restricted load immediately and the locotractor was operate maximum of three passenger cars. The first problems started at the beginning of the operation season 2013 when there were heard strange sounds from hydraulic transmission. But the next year of the Steam Olympia knocked at the door and loss of the transport capacity would be more than considerable.
We managed to get almost new locotractor WDEF this very May 2013. This is a young brother of our first locotractor GMEINDER. Previous owner equiped it more high-performance single-cylinder air-cooled petrol engine Subaru Robin ex27 with electrical starter. This starter embraced our young boys because difficult and hard starting by crank handle was cancelled. Maximum declared power of engine is 6.6 kW. We got original Chinese engine as bonus so we can use it as spare for GMEINDER. At last it fall exactly because engine in GMEINDER failed for good after 2nd Steam Olympia.
Now we have two relatively powerfull machines in our rolling-stock which are able to hauled work trains and passenger trains created by new cars with gauge 184 mm too. Jura has draw Czechoslovak narrow-gauge locomotive TU at the moment. Two locomotives should be use for regular operation during next year. This will next important consolidation our rolling-stock.

New working locotractor GMEINDER

Work on park railway Olympia is high and we have to solve the problem with suitable work engine. This engine must transport waggons with ballast and it must haul working trains during track maintenance. But this engine has to be very simple for servicing and maintenance.
We found exactly the same engine on Steam indoor meeting in Karlsruhe. We viewed the engine and we asked producer for more details. The locotractor is structurally simple and it is relatively robust. Weight is about 300 kgs. The locotractor is equipped with water-cooled single-cylinder compression ignition engine with hydraulic transmission.

Handing over locotracor went ahead on Saturday, 27th March 2010. We set out on Friday afternoon to German inland - nine hours of journey we cannot cut.
Small family firm of Mt. Jürgen Musche resides in former station building of local line at small town Großseifen. This line was canceled long ago, but there are some meters of track on piece of land though with smaller whell gauge, that are used for test runs only. Park railway is not open to public, at the moment.

tion building. There is a workroom

We tried runs on vehicle with non bonneted cab at the first. The control is the same with locotractor, only sitting is slightly worse. You sit sidelong to driving direction on small seat squab. We must learn very fine control of the vehicle.

The locotractor waited for us in depot. We only pull out its and we can started engine "by starting handle". Compared to exhibit we choosed dark green engine bonnet with red colour of bogie. Jirka sat into cab as first and he started test runs. But he relinquished place for Roman and for me eventually and we did not have to chuck one out him by force.

We transported the locotractor in good order in Krenovice, where it will provisionally stored
in company Velecky. Here will come true test runs on new track and switches.

Switches testing

Switches for the first stage of park railway Olympia are completed. We have to try their passability before dispatch on building. Workers of Velecky company set a short track with two switches. We can start testing.

direction does not work ...

... and we revealed a reason
presently - jumped-out drawbar.

journey from Germany probably.

spot.

We pined down drawbar by female
screw M8.
(photo © Tomas Randysek)

And we had to solve another problem during starting. Engine did not want start. We tried almost everything, but engine held one´s one. Reason was detected eventually - hooked drawbar of engine control.

Moving of locotractor into engine shed of the central station

Building of engine shed in the site of central station is completed almost and we decided to move locotractor Gmeinder from provisional disposal site at Velecky company. We hade to use fork lift and van given its size and weight. We moved locotractor on Friday 6th May 2011.

The situation during unloading was a little complicated because we did not any handling equipment. Jirka made a provisional unloading platform from track field. We underlaid this platform with blocks. Rake angle was precisely because a few millimeters were between roof of locotractor and top doorcase.

Locotractor was moved and stored at its domestic depot in good condition. It will include into regular operation at Park Railway Olympia Brno soon.
Jura wears a smile after this action - all is in order.

Premiere run at Park Railway Olympia Brno

We arranged Open day at building of the central station on 25th August. Diesel locotractor Gmeinder had its premiere run at park Railway Olympia Brno this day. The boys carefully prepared it and tried it all morning. Adult can sit down into locotractor and so it look overgrown impression compared to its steam female colleague. Traction force is very heavy and we did not have so long train at our park railway. All 5" pew cars, two 7" gondolas and one 7" tank car were included into special train.

Freight cars

Three types of freight cars were designed for fully use during maintenance and supply of operation. All freight cars are constructed on gauge 184 mm and they are four-axle.

Gondola car with removable sideboards - car of classic construction with a metal frame and wooden floor. We use it for transport all sorts of goods - coal, chairs, tools, electrical central when we are moving from central station to Amphitheatre during operating day. This car has a big freight capacity and so it can carries goods enough, sometimes auxiliary staff. On the plus side we can remove sideboards and we use this car as platform for transport a long heavy things. Jura made bogies himself, other parts made company Velecky.

Dump car - car of all-metal construction for transport loose materials, mainly ballast. Every car has safety brake because loading weight is about 800 kg. And you can try stop this moving car. Dump car has two flaps with handy lever on the each side. We tried both dump cars during keep filling up the track with ballast and cars fully proved successful.

Tank car - bogie and frame they the same as gondola car. An polythene tank is mounted on the floor of car. This tank made company AMM Otahal as sponsorship donation. Jura made riveting, polystyrene heads of the tank and other accessories really precisely. Tank car has typical lockable manhole and two lower dump valves - one on the each side. We transport water for steam locomotives in this car.
